Connecting the Dots

Reader comment on item: Sudden Jihad or "Inordinate Stress" at Ft. Hood?

Submitted by J. Keen Holland (United States), Nov 9, 2009 at 14:49

Here's one little connection that I haven't seen referenced in the media, although the two dots made the TV news.

Dot One - A cousin of the major living in Virginia mentioned in an interview that in trying to find a wife for him, the major wanted a traditional Muslim woman who would wear the hijab.

Dot Two - In another TV interview, another relative (an uncle IIRC) in Palestine echoed the cousin's view that the major was thoroughly American and mentioned that the major's mother was so assimilated that she didn't even wear a headscarf.

What these to data points say to me is that the major was, in a pattern we have seen before, reacting against the assimilation of his parents' generation.
