Both are right

Reader comment on item: May an American Comment on Israel?

I actually agree with both Yoram Schweitzer and Daniel Pipes in one aspect, and disagree with both on another.
As an Israeli and a reservist I agree with Schweitzer that the deal was painful and dangerous, but an absolute necessity. I can't see what else could have been done, and the Israeli public needed the soldiers back, alive or dead, and quick. We needed to have it "out of our system" to start dealing full time with one great threat to our existence called Iran.

The disgraceful national celebration in Lebanon for the child murderer was actually an important reminder for us Israelis about our morality, our neighbours "morality", and the fact that we must continue being strong because we have no other choice.

And of course Daniel Pipes is absolutely right that his nationality should have nothing to do when considering his very valuable analyses about Israel. Sometimes things are seen better from the outside, and sometimes not.
