Another American Opinion - What Happens to Israel Affects the Whole World - Israeli Government Notwithstanding

Reader comment on item: May an American Comment on Israel?

Submitted by M. Tovey (United States), Jul 28, 2008 at 15:59

What we read in Dr. Pipes expose of Y. Schweitzer's MYOB commentary is that in his egalitarian posture (prompted by twangs of guilt for not being true to the heritage of Israel?) towards opinions about Israel's governmental dealings, everything that concerns Israel concerns the world.

To start, America is targeted just as quickly as Israel by the Islamic Revolution, such that if for example Israel does execute something pre-emptorily against the nuclear threat, Israel will not be alone in the retaliation. Further, nothing Israel does escapes the scape-goating by the United Nations or the rest of a world wary of Middle East happenings, such as the economies of countries tied to the price of a barrel of oil. Antipathies towards Israel by Arab oil producing nations are just part an underlying cause of such things.

It would be na├»ve to assume Mr. Schweitzer's position is correct, no matter what offense he takes, for shortly it will become academic as Israel is forced into the next round of international hostilities bent on coercing Israel into more concessions. Israel will not bear the consequences (shoulder the resulting price) of their governments actions alone. The Eternal Sovereign will see to that. If Mr. Schweitzer thinks Israel is forced now into giving ground for peace, he should cover his eyes with some impossible hope that all would be well if his country's enemies only take Samaria and Jerusalem. However, In the Islamic revolution's scheme of things, they are only progress payments to the ultimate Islamic dream, a United ‘Palestine', if the Israeli government was left to its own devices.

In the alternative, the Israeli government does need to carefully consider a full scope of things, that whatever Israel does, the world is an unwilling participant at least, and at worst, the perpetrator of a global persecution of Israel that eventually backlashes and brings the world into submission to Israel's Almighty God. It will not matter what Mr. Schweitzer thinks of Dr. Pipe's opinions then.
