Reader comment on item: May an American Comment on Israel?

Submitted by Lynn (United States), Jul 28, 2008 at 13:26

Israel might be thousands of miles away from the United States but it is close in our hearts. The decision to free that evil man Samir Kunter and the others deserves close inspection as he and his ilk are only an opportunity away from committing their evil deeds again and again. They have boldly stated their intentions for all to hear.

To think there are functioning governments in the world that celebrate these evil ones who spend every waking moment plotting and planning the destruction of Israel and death to its' citizens is utterly despicable. The fact these very same people and governments that support them also wishes the same for the citizens of the United States and other freedom loving peoples unites and causes us to be concerned for the diplomatic decisions Israel and the west makes.

I do not agree with Mr. Schweitzer that we in the United States are sitting in a safe haven since in my opinion any country that is not an a follower or supporter of the Islamists is an enemy of Hamas, Hisbullah, Al Qaeda and the myriad of other names they give themselves . We have endured our own share of Islamist attacks against our citizens and soldiers and we also have many people who are risking their lives in the fight against them.

I do not always understand the negotiations that governments make on behalf of their fellow citizens but can only hope that it is for the best of others and not for personal gain. And finally those like Dr. Pipes who publicly continue to write and speak out against the Islamists and are openly champions for the State of Israel are putting themselves in danger and we are all aware what has happened to others who have done the same, therefore the answer is yes he should continue to comment on Israel decision making.
