Yoram Schweitzer's argument absurd

Reader comment on item: May an American Comment on Israel?

Submitted by Rick (United States), Jul 28, 2008 at 09:59

Does Mr. Schweitzer have the right to criticize the US or France or Britain? Should a Brit never say anything about German foreign policy? Should an American not have the right to criticize Pakistani policy on al-Qaeda? This ghettoization of thought and ideas based on nationality is patently absurd. Mr. Pipes, especially as an eminent Middle East commentor, not only has the right to comment ,but should comment. What ever happened to "the right to one's opinion?"

Mr. Schweitzer joins those leaders like Bashir of Sudan or Mubgabe of Zimbabwe who say "foreigners' should keep their opinions to themselves.

The rub is that many if not most Israelis agree with Mr. Pipes that the trade was 1. unfair and 2. dangerous for future hostage situations.
