An Assertions Truth is Independent of its AuthorReader comment on item: May an American Comment on Israel? Submitted by Bernard Silverman (United States), Jul 28, 2008 at 11:11 If we can't speak our mind, what can we say? Of course those outside Israel can hold and express opinions about Israel's actions on both in terms of their efficacy and morality. Reality will be the judge of the former while the latter is eternally debatable. Schweitzer's position reminds me of the 40 year old arguments, still heard but more muted today, that underachieving students require teachers of the same race as themselves to do better in school. Clearly matching teachers and students on race hasn't done the trick. You don't need to be Jewish or an Israeli to have some "skin in the game" of telling the truth. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
