Israel-then and nowReader comment on item: Samir Kuntar and the Last Laugh Submitted by Donald W. Bales (United States), Jul 27, 2008 at 14:30 I have been unable to understand the actions of the Israeli government. At one time Israel was feared and its enemies knew that there would be serious retaliation for violence. Every time Israel has made any concession, it has been rewarded by more violence from the Palestinians urged on by others. I still do not understand why those who give lip service to justice, democracy and equality support those who have none of it and oppose the only country in the region that has those values. But then Israel has the political problem of having a lot of people who do not perceive the danger-just as the U.S. does.
