Reader comment on item: Samir Kuntar and the Last Laugh

Anyone and everyone who supports Israel, has been shaking their heads in shock and bewilderment at this erroneous decision to exchange two dead soldiers for five murderers. When I heard this news item several days ago, I was stunned and wondered if I had heard correctly; sadly, I had. The problem with the Israeli leaders is that they are sure they are right in appeasement, but history proves quite the opposite: that appeasement never brings about security, it is a temporary balm to ease the pain, but the problem is still there, a gaping wound that won't heal. It is yet another example of spineless leadership in one of the world's most successful democracies, a country which has pulled itself up by the bootstraps and made something of itself.

When I see what Israel has contributed to the world, and how much advancement has taken place within her borders, then witness something as distasteful as the murderers-for-dead-bodies swap, the mind boggles. I can only hope that there will be a new breed of Israeli leadership in the very near future, who will take Israel in the right direction, and stand up to the tyranny surrounding it which threatens to break its very core. Appeasement is akin to cowardice; standing up for what's right and defending Israel would be the braver thing to do.
