The comentators overlook the the status of married women in Jewish Law where the husband's fate cannot be established.
As long as Hizballa would refuse to acknowledge the status of her missing husband she cannot remarry & try & rebuild her life. This is a very strong reason for making a lousy deal .In this particular case a young woman could be prevented from finding another husband & bearing more children. As painful as the whole tragedy is to hold a young woman all her remaining life as hostage is unfair .The poor performance of the Israeli Army is due in many respects to moral restraints which do not trouble many countries of the Middle East, Russia, China, Sudan,Zimbabwe etc etc
The greatest cause was having a Chief of Staff who had no experience in ground fighting and like many air force Generals believed that the war can be won by the air force. This has long since been disproved .Furthermore a prime minister & minister of defence who had virtually no experience in warfare was literally asking for trouble! There were experienced ministers who strongly recommended to chose the time for war when we were ready but sadly the PM & DM would not hear of it. Finally the biggest mistake was over the years to have been miserly in developing anti rocket technology.
This is going on at full speed & as soon as it is ready the picture will change drastically. In stead of investing so much effort in the Nautilis we should have concentrated on other rsearch which would have changed the whole picture,
Finally as painful and disappointing the results of the 2nd Lebanese War for Israel it was a highly needed wake up call that you cant make economic world ratings as your main object in running the country. A country's military survival cannot be assured by good economic growth & statistics.
