Reader comment on item: Trump: You Should Ban Islamists, Not Muslims
in response to reader comment: Naturalization of Refugees or Temporary Shelter?

Potentially millions of people are seeking "temporary" refuge from persecution or other hardships and would be happy to promise to repatriate when the danger is over, while expecting as a practical matter that the danger will never be completely over. That does not mean that all such individuals are necessarily harmless. Surely after the fall of Nazi Germany many Nazi war criminals also sought refuge from potential harm after the Allies took over Germany, while hoping to return to Germany once they could do so safely; this is why Mengele and Eichmann fled to South America.

However, the USA has long had a policy of screening all potential candidates for permanent residency (not just citizenship) concerning whether they might have Nazi or communist backgrounds, so that we prevent any such dangerous people from harming those already in this country. Shariah law is a similarly dangerous political ideology that is alien to our Constitutional values, and is likely a major contributor to persecution and hardships from which many potential refugees to this country have fled.

The USA should strive to minimize the number of persons entering this country who support Shariah law, just as it presently strives to do the same re potential Nazi or communist revolutionaries.
