From general conservatives' point of view it might be seen as unstrategic.
From Trump's one it may prove very strategically smart move (while unconstitutional).

If it is unacceptable needs to be seen as it seems acceptable to those who support, and came to support him after his outrageous remarks.
Unconstitutional - our immigration rules pose certain questions for applicants that demand supporting our constitution and following US laws. Those who lie on their applications may be lawfully stripped citizenship (green cards). This would be constitutional. And those trying to impose sharia, polygamy may not pass the test.
