Banning Islamists not Muslims

Reader comment on item: Trump: You Should Ban Islamists, Not Muslims

Submitted by Donald (United States), Dec 12, 2015 at 09:42

Mr. Pipes - Calling for a temporary halt in the immigration of citizens from the Middle East or elsewhere who answer the question mandated by the U. S. Code, "what is your religious faith" is not unconstitutional. There is no inherent constitutonal right for people to immigrate to this nation. Indeed, Presidents FDR, Truman, and Carter all halted immigration from Middle Eastern countries and elsewhere (or severely reduced their numbers) for a specific period of time.

Moreover, if you can find a clear way to distinguish between "Islamists" and "Muslims" (bearing in mind that the Koran authorizes "Islamists" to lie about their intentions), then let's hear it! Indeed, our NSC staff has admitted that they have no way of sorting this distinction out at the present time.

Mr. Trump's proposal makes sense in the current threat environment.
