I disagree w/ Pipes and response to Irfan's "I don't buy this" comment

Reader comment on item: Why the Japanese Internment Still Matters

Submitted by John (United States), Dec 31, 2004 at 18:20

First off, I think the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII was wrong. I disagree with Pipes and Malkin.

Secondly Irfan Khawaja made an erroneous statement in response to Mr. Pipes that I am surprised he wasn't challenged on. He said, "...the hint dropped to the effect that internment camps for Muslims are a legitimate "defensive" measure is way over the line."

Mr. Pipes never made any such hint. The hint was actually made by Democracy Now's Amy Goodman. She was implying that the right would support internment for Muslims. Her tactics are misleading.

The real enemy of freedom is Islamists. They pretend to be tourists, students, reporters, immigrants, innocent civilians and dress up in fake uniforms - all to target innocent civilians for murder. The left's outrage against such atrocities is very muted. Take their stance on the Intifada for example.

My point is that if it wasn't for Islamist terrorism we wouldn't be debating alleged infrigements of freedom by the US. Islamists' hatred for civil liberty is evident in Iraq where they seek to destroy the security of its citizens and their right to freely determine their own leadership.

Many point out that the US is trying to force democracy on foreign countries. Well guess what? The US was initially reluctant to schedule early elections in Iraq. It was the Shite that pushed for these elections. The Iraqi people want freedom but the left doesn't want them to have it. Neither do terrorists.

I support the fight against fascism, do you?
