Reader comment on item: Swiss Minarets and European Islam
in response to reader comment: too long

Mr Soetero of Indonesia , thinking it is somehow significant that some countries have not had female presidents , but either ignoring the point or totally unable to offer any instances of major muslim contributions to any technological , social or scientific fields of endeavour, writes:

"200 years was too long for the most advance democratic countries to put woman as president!!!"

Obviously the 'most advance democratic countries' , 200 years ago were not as advanced as they are today - what point are you trying to make?

Which countries are you trying to complain about?

Many western countries, all of which are democracies - do not have presidents. Canada, Australia, Ireland, NZ , Iceland and several others have Prime Ministers. Germany has a Chancellor. Some of these countries have and do currently have, females in those roles. If by president , you mean ruler or head of state - then brush up on your european history. Queen Mary 1st of England was that country's first Queen ruling in her own right (not just as wife of a king.). Her reign began in 1553.

As I've asked before - instead of trying to sidetrack the issue - please list the major contributions made by muslim countries to modern technological and social sciences, medicine etc .
