re: ban on minarets

Reader comment on item: Swiss Minarets and European Islam

While the sentiments of the populations in question are reflected in the lopsided votes, the unfortunate reality is that the fox is in the henhouse and short of kicking him out, which seems highly unlikely, the damage is done. While western liberal democracies are wonderful places to aspire to lofty sentiments and values such as multiculturalism, religious tolerance and equality before the law for all, muslims simply do not play by the same rules, and we appear to be unable to assimilate that truth on a wide scale basis. Exactly why this is escapes me, since that truth would seem to be obvious. Unfortunately, this blindspot is the suicide pill for the west, our failing is not being as ruthless as our enemies. We seem incapable of taking the only appropriate actions necessary to stop this in its tracks; deport all muslims, close down and destroy all mosques and criminalize islam in the west. Otherwise, its only a matter of time, and they don't seem to care how long it takes.
