CAIR's incitement to murder Khalid Duran

Reader comment on item: CAIR: 'Moderate' friends of terror

Submitted by Susan C. (United States), Apr 23, 2002

Unfortunately, Dr. Pipes did not have room in his column to delve too much into the Khalid Duran "death threat" matter engineered by CAIR last summer.

I followed this case closely and can confirm it was more than just "death threats" -- it was a statement by a radical Shiekh in a Jordanian publication which accused Duran of being "outside of Islam" -- because of statements made about Duran by CAIR in one of its well-orchestrated smear campaigns. Since apostasy (leaving Islam) is a capital crime in orthodox Islam, the CAIR smear campaign against Duran was basically an incitement to murder.

Duran went into hiding after the story broke in publications like the NY Post, the NY Times and Washington Post. Despite a strong editorial in the Washington Post entitled "A Squabble and a Threat" that spelled out CAIR's reprehensible role in this incident, to the best of my knowledge, CAIR DID NOT in any way distance itself from the provocative statements that the Jordanian Sheikh made about Khalid Duran.

This chilling incident proved to me once and for all that CAIR does not uphold American values such as freedom of speech and freedom of religious conscience, and that it honors the dictates of Islamic sharia ahead of the Bill of Rights.
