CAIR's "victim" mentality

Reader comment on item: CAIR: 'Moderate' friends of terror

Submitted by Margie (United States), Apr 23, 2002

CAIR encourages American Muslims to think of themselves as "victims". Reports of "anti-Muslim incidents" are actively solicited and encouraged. By their own statistics, fully one third of such incidents reported fall into the categories of "public harrassment" and "airport profiling". When someone is conditioned to an expectation of being hated and victimized it's very easy for them to perceive people looking at them as giving them "hateful stares" or "dirty looks". I suspect the "public harrassment" category contains mainly this type of incident. As far as airport profiling is concerned, people with a Muslim or Arab appearance are actually LESS likely to be searched. After all, these people will complain, and if there's anything government workers try to avoid, it's "squeaky wheels".

Encouraging victimhood among its constituents increases CAIR's power. If people are convinced that they need protection, they are likely to look to, and financially support, an organized and politically-connected entity which touts itself as willing and able to provide that protection.

I've also noticed lately that if someone can convince you that you're a "victim", the rule is that you're absolved of any responsibility to behave in a moral way toward your supposed "oppressors". Anything from simple deceit to theft to murder is justified as a "defense". This principle is evidenced by Palestinian suicide bombers and al-Qaeda's attacks, as well as even those who recently made illegal "slavery reparations" claims to the IRS.
