Request from Senate on US Establishment's Connections to CAIR

Reader comment on item: CAIR: 'Moderate' friends of terror

Submitted by William Robert Jack (United States), Mar 20, 2006 at 20:07

I sent the following letters to the two Senators in Washington D.C. from my State of Nevada

"Dear Senator Ensign/ Reid:

I am interested in whether a certain organization is on your radar screen, and what your assessment of it is.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), headquartered in Washington, is perhaps the best-known and most controversial Muslim organization in North America. CAIR presents itself as an advocate for Muslims' civil rights and the spokesman for American Muslims. "We are similar to a Muslim NAACP," says its communications director, Ibrahim Hooper.[1] Its official mission-"to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding"-suggests nothing problematic about the organization. But information I have recently received about CAIR indicates that this organization has terrorist roots, and is extremely problematic to US interests.

There is some hint that this organization may have burroughed its way into the graces of the US establishment. This means the Administration and the Congress. Accordingly, I would appreciate knowing what your position is on this organization, and specifically what influence CAIR may have in Washington with the Administration and Congress.
With kind regards,

William R. Jack"
