Coming to grips with ideology of Islamism

Reader comment on item: CAIR: 'Moderate' friends of terror

Submitted by Edward M Robbins, Jr (United States), Apr 22, 2002

Daniel Pipes appears to be the only commentator of national status who knows what is happening with the Islamists and is not afraid to say it. One thing is missing, however, not just from Mr. Pipes' writings, but from the entire national debate: a detailed analysis of the theoretical underpinnings of militant Islam. It is inconceivable that we could have mounted a successful campaign against Communism without coming to grips with its ideology and the economic and political theories of Marx and Lenin, et al. I suspect that this reluctance to discuss theory stems from the fact that at its core, Islamism is based on a religion. And it is politically incorrect in the extreme to attack a religion, even where it calls for your destruction. Lets hope we don't wait for an Islamic nuke to take out Miami, before we get serious about fully understanding the problem we are up against.
