Dear Psuedo Jew,

I appreciate your comments and the time you took to respond, however I think you miss my point. Of course Ahmadinejad is a raving full fledged fundamentalist. My point is his wacky ideas are no more wacky than George Bush. One waits on the Mahdi the other on Jesus Christ, sorry if anyone is offended but both beliefs are based on the same idea of faith. The point is if you are to find a solution to the Iranian problem you have to understand what this man desires and why he desires it. I was responding to Mr. Pipes article regarding the mysticism of Mr. Ahmadinejad and was pointing out that Mr. Bush is just as mystical. We fail to understand our opposition when we attribute their religious beliefs to mysticism and classify our own as fact. One cannot negotiate from either of these faith based positions.

There is a historical impetus at work here in the Middle East that must be recognized and addressed if we are to make any head way in this area. The issue is not just Israel, Israel merely represents the centuries of domination by the west that those cultures resent. Wiping out Israel has been a constant part of political discussion in the Middle East since the inception of the nation state. Solve the Palestinian problem and the issue of Israel will fall far down the political landscape.

As to your other pertinent comments. Your friends may wish to split the difference for political purposes but Iranians are Persians. Its a very old culture and if I were them I'd change the name of the country back to Persia, a great history and a great culture. I am Turkish and there are tribe and ethnic groups but call it what you will a Turk remains a Turk. As aside not very well liked by Persians, Arabs or anyone else in the area, it comes with conquering and controlling large swaths of land for many years.

As to your business comment regarding the Arab CFO. If you were good at what you do and he let you go for those reasons he sucks as a business man. On top of that he doesn't follow the tenants of his own faith very well. I doubt if the Prophets wife Aisha would appreciate his ideas, one must remember she led men into battle. Again my point don't confuse the imposition that certain cultures place on religion for the religion itself. Neither Orthodox Jews nor fundamental Christians hold women in high esteem, that's not God's idea that's the boys clubs idea. No uppity women need apply,. Please it is so male and has nothing to do with religion.
