The left's popular concept of Bush's totalitarianism is faux totalitarianism - if it were genuine, we wouldn't be talking about wiretaps, we'd be talking about Michael Moore being imprisoned, mosques under siege, and the wholesale imprisonment of those Muslims who mind their own business (not just the ones who seek us out on the battlefield or whose phone numbers turn up on hard drives found in al Qaeda hideouts). Not to mention that Bush would be unique among despots for seeking to foster democracy in other nations.

If Bush initiated construction of an "Avenue of the Second Coming" near the White House, I'd be concerned, but until then, use of the tools of law enforcement isn't totalitarianism - at most, it is aggressive self-defense.

Also, JK, if you are "the" JK, thanks for the Potter books - keep 'em coming!
