Western Nuclear Power versus Iranian Nuclear power

Reader comment on item: The Mystical Menace of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Submitted by David Davila (United States), Jan 11, 2006 at 11:16

I am sick of hearing that we have to have parity with the Iranians and that it is only "Fair" that they have what we have (nuclear) . Some have categorized this as hypocritical (that we have nuclear power and they don't), but there is one major difference between our ( U.S., Russia, Germany, England, Israel, ... and even France) and the Iranian demagogues that aspire to have that power.

Time has proven that the rest of the nations have a modicum of self-preservation in their thinking. While arsenals were built, they were defensive in nature and during the cold war, the principle of Mutually Assured Destruction kept things in check.

This doesn't seem to be the case with those that would destroy anyone that does not adhere to their concept of worship regardless of the cost to themselves.

They have proven this time and again with conventional weaponry. Now that they would have ultimate power, do we have any doubt that they are willing to wield that power to force others to believe as they do ?

That is what separates them from the rest of the powers that already have the nuclear option. I believe that Ahmadinejad says what he means and means what he says.

He has to be stopped now !!

If the Iranians are unwilling to cease their efforts, we may be forced to take the fight to them. We don't have much time. It would be nice if we had the time in which we could work through diplomacy, but we don't. With their leader's idea of Islamist hegemony over the whole world, not only are Christians and Jews at peril, but all other types of believers and non-believers are at risk. Do they honestly believe that they will somehow be exempted from this type of unyielding Islamist hatred ?
