Saudi Arabia and its ilk

Reader comment on item: The Mystical Menace of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
in response to reader comment: Belief in their own mission

The US does not oppose Saudi Arabia. And up until 1979 when the despot Shah was removed in the Islamic Revolution, the US didn't oppose Iran either. In fact, the US has promoted many tyrannical regimes and groups around the world when it suits its needs, such as Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Iran-pre 1979, Iraq when Saddam was busy gassing Kurds with US supplied weapons. In turn it has opposed democracies when the leaders (who inevitably are demonised as dictators or worse) try to shake off the US yoke. The peoples of Venezuela, Iran again (post 1979) and Chile can all testify to the hypocrisy of US opposition.

As for the question "When - in your opinion - will freedom-loving Americans start seeking asylum in Iran and Saudi Arabia then?", well that's just pointless ranting. Americans are however already moving to Canada.....
