But to use the wartime excuse to justify extreme measures which restrict the "freedoms" America seeks to impose on others is obviously wrong. Critics of Bush and his war are lambasted (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/13/AR2006011301736_pf.html), protests are now held in Free Speech zones and anti-war activists are now jailed for simply airing their views.

America has now become worse than the regimes it opposes.
