Is the American appetite for death and destruction bottomless?

Reader comment on item: How to Save the Obama Presidency: Bomb Iran

Submitted by IL (Norway), Feb 10, 2010 at 03:29

Iran hasn't started a war for two thousand years, while the US has bombed more than 80 countries and invaded many, overthrown democratically elected governments and inflicts economic sanctions on just about half the world's population. And still we're brainwashed to think that it's Iran that is the threat. And that satelite state of yours down in the middle east also developed nuclear weapons illegally, and it holds millions of people in what is basically a concentration camp in Gaza, while continually committing the grossest violations of international and humanitarian law. But I guess that doesn't matter.

I think perhaps someone should take responsibility and bomb the US and Israeli nuclear facilities first. They have proven much greater threats to world peace, actually both fight perpetual wars and have economies dependent on warfare, and there are no doubts their nuclear material is weapons-grade. But nah, it ain't gonna happen, and I don't think war is fun like in the video games anyway, unlike conservative commentators who glee at dying children as long as they're "evil". No, I think we can begin with pulling out of NATO and ending the military alliance with this regime, I don't think the US deserves to have "friends" with the way it behaves. "Friends" aren't meant to be trodden upon and the US has pushed around its allies to get support for its killing adventures for long enough.

As sad as the human cost of another American war adventure would be, at least it could lead to the empire losing its allies, since then we'd understand that the election of Obama didn't mark a return to common sense.
