Reader comment on item: How to Save the Obama Presidency: Bomb Iran

Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Feb 3, 2010 at 14:06

Given the present President's vagueness pertaining to his knowledge of international affairs, it would seem that encouraging him to take such an extraordinary step as bombing Iran, would be expecting too much. This scenario takes on an even more macabre appearance by the fact that Obama certainly does have "personality, identity and celebrity"; it is precisely these characteristics that would impede his ability to make an intelligent decision of such magnitude. Because he is weak in strategic areas, he promotes himself rather as an orator extraordinaire, often using this talent to dispel fear, quell murmurings and to disguise ignorance.

While negotiations rarely lead to peace, in this instance, an (unprovoked) assault on Iran, which some may say is justified, is questionable. However, there may be no choice, as the general feelings about this are "if we don't strike first, they will strike us." Whether or not this would shoot Obama straight to fame, is also questionable.
