Interesting as an idea but likely a mistake in reality

Reader comment on item: How to Save the Obama Presidency: Bomb Iran

Submitted by Lazman (United States), Feb 6, 2010 at 17:52

At this time, even a surgical US missile strike will backfire and Iran will stir things up more in Iraq through their Shia sect. Let's properly fix that mess first.

Keep in mind that by agreeing to an Islamic constitution in Iraq, we have already traded one type of dictatorship for another. During Saddam era, women in Iraq worked and dressed freely; now they are all covered up in black and for a while could not even buy cucumbers !!

The idea has its obvious appeal, but to me not for the humorous suggestion for propping up the presidency but for at least as a supportive signal for the ongoing opposition to the Iranian government. Iran recently executed two activists arrested during the unrest of its presidential election after convicting them as "the enemies of God".

Give more time to ongoing discussions of further enrichment by France or Russia. And support the anti-government groups in and outside Iran while keeping in mind the lessons learned from supporting anti-Saddam groups.
