it is sad that America has become so weak or weakened that standing up to a smaller, weaker terrorist country is not an automatic thing .. ..Feb 2010

Reader comment on item: How to Save the Obama Presidency: Bomb Iran

Submitted by Phil Greend (Canada), Feb 3, 2010 at 23:51

I like America and Americans, as do many Canadians.

However in the past decades we have seen a once mighty powerhouse of democracy and human rights spreaders slowly losing its effectiveness.

During the Vietnam war the government did not openly push the value of the the war to the public. This is the total opposite from the Second World War, where people we encouraged to buy war bonds and send in scrap metal. The government clearly demonstrated to the public the need for the war and that this war was a necessary thing. The President Carter years, made Americans seem weak and wimpish for not standing up to Iran, when the 52 hostages were held for an astonishing 444 days.

Your president Reagan did much to improve the American image as a tough but fair country.

It is interesting, in the days, weeks and first few months after 3000 people were murdered in the name of allah on September 11 2001 a huge number of Americans and people from other countries strongly wanted America to strike back at those to blame. Yet only 4 or 5 years later some Americans and people from other countries were against the Iraq war. ( True, maybe Iraq did not play a direct role in the killings of innocent Americans on September 11, however the leaders and many Iraqi people were involved in similar types of thoughts and actions. Please recall Iraqi president saddam murdered the Kurds via poison gas { chemical ali was executed Jan 2010.} he also killed many of his own people, had an eight year war with Iran and attacked Kuwait. All of this killing was done in the name of allah. However by the time he was hung. some American people disliked President Bush and some were in fact hate filled towards President Bush.

When President Obama received the Noble prize, some people joked he won it for not being President Bush.

Now Feb. 2010, Iran has the intent to make nuclear power, nuclear waste and nuclear weapons. They have openly stated that they will kill all of the Jews and wipe Israel off the map. They have also threatened the west and many middle east countries.

Please I have a question, what will America do ?
