Hi Aymenn

I happen to disagree with Dr. Pipes on the issue of Iran. I do believe that what Iran and the people of Iran want and expect is respect for a great culture and civilization and that Iran indeed can be a great ally in our war against radical Islam. The only Muslims in the world that shared our grief following the 9/11 atrocity were the people of Iran and how many suicide bombers or terrorists have we had that came from Iran? I cannot think of a single one

We have many Iranians here in the US and I cannot think of anyone of them that was involved is some nefarious plot againt the US. Iranians here in the US represent a great community and we are glad to have them him among us

Iran's history is very interesting as Iranians were dragged into islam but they also were able to shape Islam is the way they wanted it to be (70% of kutub al-turath al-islami were written by Iranians as per Ali Dashti) after all the pragmatic Iranians realized that if you cannot beat the sword of the Arab "barbarians" then you can join them but in the process shape Islam and make it an Iranian idea and religion. Iranians despised the Arabs (and they still do) and their culture and opted to speak Persian and not Arabic and to become shi3a and not sunni. We can use such split between Iran and the Sunnis to our advantage in the war on radical islam

I do believe that Iran can be a great ally if we work on it

As for the issue of Iran's atomic bomb I do believe that if Iran would have to select between developing an atomic bomb v. being respected and treated as an equal it will opt for the latter

To us here in the West we do not appreciate what the concept of being "respected" really means

>Also, Dr. Pipes' idea that a strike on Iran's nuclear facilities would somehow divert attention from issues like health care ... has become too big an issue to ignore now.

No I disagree with you. Obama tries to please every one and this is one of his serious flaws and he just does not get it. I'm for a single payor system and I hope that Obama's health bill will be defeated and we go back to square one and hope for another day
