Safraz, You say you are " A Muslim who is quite astonished that the right wing masses in America, and thankfully not their leadership, has essentially abandoned the moderate Muslims of the world.."

And you also suggest the main stream media ignores the fact of "moderate Muslims" issuing 'fatwahs' against things other Muslims are doing, (things that the fatwah issuers abhor). Believe me, if Muslims were to take a straightforward public stand in solidarity with Western values (as opposed to complete defended silence w/regard to, for instance, Islamic taxi drivers practicing religious discrimination in a free society) instead of feebly and defensively insisting that every single wrongdoing committed in the name of Islam is simply un-Islamic (which only reinforces the outrageous idea that Muslims are being wronged!) the media would take notice. If for no other reason than the sheer novelty, the media would take notice.

On the other hand, fatwahs, whether they are issued by CAIR, or Al Quaeda ... or by Muslims who object to terror mongers CAIR and Al Quaeda .. are religious matters .. and rightfully have the most basic impact on those people who believe in the dictates of the fatwahs: other Muslims. Issuing a fatwah is not a sufficient social response to the larger religiously diversified and secular society. In fact, it's insulting and arrogant to presume anyone outside of your religion pay attention to your religious directives. Islamic directives, for your information, are not the law of our land - for Muslims or for anyone else! Nor are they newsworthy (unless issued by terrorists). Go ahead and make fatwahs in your religion .. but do not expect those outside the realm of your religion to respect them (or even notice them) the same way you respect them. It would also be an enormously useful idea to be honest about all the 'dueling fatwahs' issued every day of the week in Islam.

The rest of us already know about it .. so give up the pretense of Islam being 'all peaceful' when it's most obviously more about war than peace. Since you do not live in an 'enclave', stop acting as if you do. Instead, if you want credibility then act credibly and take an extremely overdue public stand in solidarity with other Americans. Trust me, our 'leadership' would have more respect for you (and we for them). Placating Muslims is simply not a viable solution - whether placation is practiced by our leadership or by other Muslims.
