in response to reader comment: Muslim drinking

Submitted by robbyn smith (United States), Nov 29, 2008 at 17:28

My son-in-law is muslim..my daughter converted to Islam (loosely) and after 3 years we have a new granddaughter. Ahmed says he feels it is not right to bring his daughter to our house because we drink beer and wine and he doesn't want it around his daughter. Side note, Ahmed will not be around us when we drink..may even stay at his sisters house and leave the visit of our household just with my daughter. Tho, I have to say, my husband is not fond of son-in-law (to put it lightly) and Ahmed chooses to not rock the boat and let our daughter have a plesant family visit w/o the tension. Are there any arguements I can give for what seems unreasonable to me. When we visit his house we do not drink. But feel no one should tell you what you can do in your own home.

Thank you...R
