Airport commissions deal in airport operations, not counter-jihad

Wow. If anything, I was expecting my comment to be criticized from the left (as being xenophobic toward Muslim cabbies), not from the right.

Anyway, the role of an airport commission is to ensure smooth and safe operations at the airport(s) under its charge. If they can strike a blow against Islamic supremacism while carrying out that role (such as in counter-terrorism), that's frosting on the cake, but at the end of the day counter-jihad is not an airport commission's job. You (Mike) seem to think it should be, but I'd give you dollars for donuts that few, if any, airport governing bodies mention anything about resistance to creeping Islamization anywhere in their charters or mission statements. Simply put, they just don't deal in that sort of thing except when they're forced to, because it's not their job; and even when they are forced to, what's best for the airport has to come first because that is their job.

Again, the fact that the MAC was so willing to compromise in this case suggests that they believe, correctly or not, that cracking down on cabbies that won't carry alcohol has more downside than upside in terms of airport operations. Perhaps the MAC members sense that the Muslim cabbies have them over a barrel for lack of enough non-Muslim would-be replacement cabbies, or perhaps they just want to avoid a lawsuit that would have to be defended with taxpayer dollars. Frankly I'd be amazed if the wider cultural implications even factor into the MAC's decisions at all.
