A New York City Muslim Speaks (writes rather)

in response to reader comment: What next ? Bus drivers refusing people

"Yaa I know we need to accomodate them because it is a religion......."

The truth of the matter is that with respect to private services, this is perfectly acceptable. I recall a few years ago blacks like Danny Glover and Samuel Jackson going on the warpath because they could not get a cab in New York City streets. The reasoning... because they were black, eventually the policy changed because that is racist and wrong.

As for the refusal to pickup a drunkard! What is wrong with that... I live in New York City... I have seen some of the drama that comes with being a cab driver. I'm sure in the mind of a Muslim, this is perfectly justifiable and reasonable and I tend to agree. The counter-argument is just too weak to condemn a man for not servicing someone who is intoxicated or smelling of alcohol.
