Reader comment on item: 100 Bin Ladens on the Way?

Submitted by John Borgman, Jr. (United States), Apr 12, 2003 at 16:41

The dictators who hold sway in Egypt and Saudi Arabia are right to fret over 'a hundred Bin Ladens;' but only in regard to their own shaky thrones. As they have since 9/11, these purported allies have bleated about American insensitivity to the 'Arab street' while pouring forth a stream of vicious propaganda directed at this country and Israel. Decades of directing Islamist anger toward the 'Zionists' has enabled this small clique to retain power while fomenting the vitriol and hate which America and Israel have reaped.
Mubarak and the al-Saud clan have reason to finger the worry beads with sweaty digits; their covert understandings with Saddam are not only gone but documentation of their double-dealings may soon surface for the American people to see. Surely this will pressure the US to scale back its billions in aid, particularly to Egypt. Jordan at least held out against all-out support for the tyrant, which is admirable; perhaps we can direct much of the aid slated for Egypt their way.
These early spring days present America with one of those profound opportunities which come in the wake of historic events: the short time available while we still have powerful 'boots on the ground' to read the riot act to Syria, Iran and the cowering Arab states astride the Red Sea. It would take perhaps several days of moderate air sorties and Tomahawk barrages to clear out the Assad and Khamenei mafiosi responsible for the murders of nearly a thousand westerners. Lets' roll!
