Mubarak is "pulling an Arafat"

You're right as far as you go. Let's consider another picture:

Have we forgotten how Arafat orchestrated terrorist attack after terrorist attack while pretending to be the solution to such attacks? He created an educational system that packed young Arabs with explosive hate while his organization was ordering a wave of suicide bombings. Still, he convinced the world's intellectual and political leaders that he was part of a 'peace process' who would bring an end to these attacks. This is the Arab version of "good cop / bad cop". And he got away with it for sometime.

Mubarak is doing the same. He tells us to keep up the yearly stipend of $2 billion and his continued rule will protect Egypt from falling into the hands of Islamist. However, he is part of the problem. He is funding the Islamist indoctrination system that preaches irrational hate. He is suppressing any liberal democratic alternative and modern free market reforms. His state controlled media uses the scapegoats of Israel and America to distract from the oppressive nature of his regime. If there is a terrorist threat, there is a sinister reason Mubarak knows this.
