Reader comment on item: 100 Bin Ladens on the Way?

I am very optimistic and I agree with Dr. Pipes that the action in Iraq will reduce terrorism. I think that what is going on in the Middle East now could in fact mirror the events and the related domino effect that occurred in Eastern Europe after the Cold War.

The Iraqis will now be treated to heavy doses of free press, and hopefully certain "truths" about history and the world will become known to them. As a result, it is possible that other Middle Eastern people will strive for the same thing. This process has already begun as you will see if you start looking at some of the Arab and Islamic responses to the falling of the statue in Baghdad. The most compelling group of articles that I read contained quotes by Palestinians that demonstrated their shock and disgust at being "lied to" by Al-Jezeera, religious leaders and their governments about US intentions in Iraq.

By exposing Al-Jezeera, state controlled media and religious leadership as the liars and propagandists that they are, there might actually be hope for genuine reform in that troubled region.
