Excessive optimism?

Reader comment on item: 100 Bin Ladens on the Way?

Submitted by Mick Jackson (United States), Apr 8, 2003 at 17:21

DANIEL writes "Oil: A poll in Jordan finds 83 percent of respondents believing Washington is fighting for control over Iraqi oil; but when a new Iraqi government takes charge of its oil resources, this canard will die."

In response i think that this is extremely dubious. After all there is far better evidence than any putative lack of future US oil profits for all of the following:

1) Israel is not commiting a holocaust on the Palestinians
2) that 9/11 was not a CIA plot
3) that 4,000 Jews were not told to stay home on 9/11
4) that 6 million Jews were murdered by Hitler
5) that Osama perpetrated 9/11

Yet wide bodies of opinion in the Arab world believe some or all of these.

I think you are far too optimistic in your assessment that "this canard will die."
