Political correctnessReader comment on item: Pipes calls war a success Submitted by Allen Weingarten (United States), Apr 2, 2006 at 10:16 Dr. Pipes writes that "Our goal is to help the Muslim world move beyond this war through educational programs and other means. Fundamentally, we're at war with a substantial minority of the Muslim world ..."While I appreciate the fine job that Pipes does, I note that he remains mired in political correctness. He views our goal as helping the Muslim world, rather than defending America, and presumes that our enemy is not the overwhelming majority of Arabs & Muslims. It is this very pretense that precludes success. Note that when we went into Iraq, we quickly trounced them, at little cost. Then, when we tried to help them, we had costly defeats, with no end in sight. Until we recognize that the way to treat an enemy is to provide disincentives, whereas rewards will only incite them, we shall not begin to take this war seriously.
