DisagreeReader comment on item: Pipes calls war a success Submitted by Reality-based Life Form (United States), Apr 4, 2006 at 11:37 ... Iraqis are dying at a much faster rate than when the UN had Saddam under control. There is something that resembles a civil war going on in Iraq, but is really much closer to chaos. It is now generally agreed that most, if not all of this could have been avoided. First, had Bush been honest with the American people and the world, the US would not have invaded under the false pretenses of Saddam's possession of WMDs.Second, given that the invasion of Iraq was inevitable (as we are now clearly learning), the failure to provide an adequate force of troops, on the order of 300-500,000 as suggested by several US Generals, led to the breakdown of society in Iraq and the current extraordinarily horrible situation. George Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld should be held to account for their cavalier disregard for human life. ...
