Vanity, vanity, all is vanity

Reader comment on item: Why I Just Quit the Republican Party

Submitted by Abu Nudnik (Canada), Jul 23, 2016 at 10:07

Barack Obama accepted an emolument when he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize; the Nobel Committee finally admitted it a couple of months ago when it said it failed in its attempt to control his behavior. That was the first president to accept foreign emoluments. Hillary Clinton comes to the contest having accepted foreign emoluments as a matter of family business. She is pre-tested as a lifelong money laundering, influence-peddling racketeer. She is the candidate the founders feared, corrupt at the very core.

The idea that Mr. Trump is uncontrollable is nonsense. Just because the Congress was too terrified of neurotic cries of "Racism!" to use the powers afforded them (the purse, impeachment), it doesn't mean both parties can't work together to keep him on the rails. Not wanting to be smeared by the stuff in the stables is pure vanity. On what planet did anyone say Americans are classy, tasteful, and quiet: so quiet you never know what they're thinking? With a debt of 20 Trillion dollars and the opposition exercised about trivial matters like misgendering people with sexual dysphoria, who on earth did you expect to arrive on the scene? William F. Buckley?
