The failure of intellectual conservative movement

Reader comment on item: Why I Just Quit the Republican Party

Daniel Pipes: "the conservative movement, to which I belong, has developed since the 1950s into a major intellectual force. It did so by building on several key ideas (limited government, a moral order, and a foreign policy reflecting American interests and values)."

1. The majority of what the last Republican president George Bush did was mostly contrary to the ideas of limited government, moral order, or foreign policy reflecting American interests and values.

2. Both George Bush and Donald Trump proves the failure of intellectual force Daniel Pipes considers himself to be a part of. The ideas without ability or even serious attempts to organize masses around the ideas and lead them are nice but do not have practical impact. This intellectual force was not able to attract even a significant part of intellectual class, let alone masses. Trump's success proves that popular conservative movement and intellectual conservative movement have little in common except of some vague slogans.
