No one should ignore Mr Trump

Reader comment on item: Why I Just Quit the Republican Party

Dear Dr Pipes,

There is no doubt that Mr Trump has acted in boorish and reckless fashion on many occasions of his life but as a presidential candidate he is saying what people want to be said. People are sick and tired of politicians who will discuss policy issues for hours and days without stating the most obvious truths.

Before we can solve the problem of 'illegal immigration' we need to repeat a hundred times that the keyword here is not Hispanic, or Latin-American, or Indian, or Chinese or anything else. The keyword here is 'ILLEGAL'.

Before we can solve the menace of Islamic terrorism, we have to admit that there is nothing morally equivalent between exclusionary and ethnocentric Islamic doctrines and the pluralistic doctrines that the rest of the world has come to accept.

Before we can solve the problem of trade-deficit faced by America we must bluntly accept that countries that mistreat their citizens and workers have an inherent advantage over the countries that treat their citizens with dignity and respect.

In the policy discussions these things are mentioned only tangentially (if at all) but when it comes to actions they are conveniently ignored. Mr Trump is getting support of a lot of people because he is saying these things with courage and appears to be bold enough to take actions keeping them into account. Even if he does not win the election in November, no politician in the world must ignore him because Mr Trump is representing the views of millions of people.
