I don't think that word means what you think it means

Apparently, you don't quite grasp what the word "separation" means. Removing god from government is precisely what the separation of church and state is designed to do. The government should answer to no power higher than that of people which it serves. This is the antithesis of religion wherein ALL are subservient to your god first. This is why they cannot mix without devolving into a theocracy, which is just about the worst possible government structure imaginable, outside of pure communism. And depending on which god it serves, like a certain [one] ... from the middle east, it can be even worse.
