Reader comment on item: Ankara at War

Submitted by pentagram83 (Turkey), Oct 21, 2012 at 05:50

syria sheltered pkk's "leader" ocalan for more than 10 years. he was giving his orders of terror from damascus..its not turkey that killed more than 30.000 syrian citizens. its the regime itself there. so if there is a country that supported terrorism its syria. they did it for more than 20 years. the western users here make their one sided comments with the limited information they have been served with. ... no one did anything to turkey and it is always turkey did everything for fun. not to expect much from people who shape their world view through hollywood movies

Daniel Pipes replies:

I was totally sympathetic to Turkey back when the PKK was based in Damascus and the elder Assad was engaged in various other acts of aggression against it.

But that is now ancient history after the friendly relations of recent years.

Since the Syrian civil war, it's clearly been Ankara on the warpath, seeking to overthrow the Assad regime. Assad, for all his horrors, is trying to survive, not overthrow the government in Ankara.

So, no hypocrisy here.
