Regarding Pope Marmalade 3rd.

Reader comment on item: My Debate with London Mayor Ken Livingstone
in response to reader comment: Biased Media also Applies in Ireland

Submitted by Maurice Keenan (Ireland), Apr 4, 2007 at 07:42

My nom de plume of "Pope Marmalade 3rd," was concieved on the morning that people were waiting for Pope Benedict 16th to announce his name, I was having breakfast and eating marmalade, my slightly odd brain put the two together and thought it funny. I have used that name ever since and dispensed with my previous name "President Burdiiknapp" (a fictious character from a childrens book I have been writing for some time).

My comments to the radio show have always been motivated to support those in society who are neglected and downtrodden , and have always reflected my feelings that the world is a rather injust place. The shows host has read many of my texts and e-mails over the years and is obviously comfortable to do so, likewise he also reads opinions which balance the argument of the day.

To suggest that the media indulge in brainless drivel is amusing, the talkshow host concerned is anything but brainless as are most people who manage to obtain positions of significance in the national media. They may however have their own brain and may indeed see the world in a different way to you, your brain being no more superior than the brains of those around you, in the end it is necessary for all people to be humble in order for the world to function as it could and accept that , yes, you might not like the mindset of those beside you but it is not your job to rearrange their mindset. You could try texting the Moncrief show as I do , without trying to check the system and invent politically or religiously motivated names, as mine is...... not.

P.S. i do not approve of the name "Reichmaster Benedict" as it is distasteful and associates the person many feel to be Christ's representitive on earth, with the leaders of the 3rd Reich, an organisation which was born from and perpetrated evil acts. Certainly he as a child was in the hitler youth as were many people from Germany many of whom are still alive and are decent hard working people one of whom I have met.

I felt it necessary to reply to your article as the name Pope Marmalade 3rd never was, or is intended to be anything other than a bit of fun, as is the Moncrief show. Paranoia is an ugly human condition.

Yours sincerely PM3.
