A word about "moderates"

Reader comment on item: My Debate with London Mayor Ken Livingstone

I found this comment on another blog. Very important. It means: don't expect "moderates" to save you. The comment is in the context of the dominionist power grab in the U.S. but the principle is general.

Quote from the comment:

"But when the chips are down, it's the consistent ones who win out in the struggle *within* a movement. Moderates cannot oppose "extremists" in any substantial way, once the ship hits the fan"

In the case of Islam, the extremists will point to the Koran for their justification. The moderates have nothing to point to. Then can only step aside. If moderates are to fight, they'd need intellectual ammunition. But, they don't have any since they share the same ideology with the extremists. Just consider a moderate response to the outrages contained in the recent UK Channel 4 documentary about the UK Muslim extremists. As I remember, the response was something like "not helpful". The above comment goes a long way towards explaining what's wrong with moderate Islam. They may not be overjoyed when the jihadis cut of our heads, but they won't stop it from happening.
