Ken has seen (some of) the light...

Reader comment on item: My Debate with London Mayor Ken Livingstone

Submitted by Keith McLennan (Australia), Dec 20, 2015 at 05:38

'Red' Ken seems to have finally been able to square his far-left beliefs with recognition of the threat posed by radical Islam. This is strange on the face of it, because old-style Marxists would have had no trouble recognising such an enemy. To describe such movements they had a ready-made vocabulary, in which the terms 'reactionary', 'feudal' and 'obscurantist' were well to the fore.

But in view of radical Islam's de facto alliance with the modern left, Ken could not follow the old path. He has solved the dilemma by putting all the blame on "our principal ally", Saudi Arabia. It is to blame for Wahhabism, that is true. But he seems to have forgotten all about everyone else, from the Taliban, to Palestinian suicide bombers, to the arch-fiends of radical Islam, the ayatollahs. Oh well, maybe in another eight years the light will dawn for him about them, too.
