Reader comment on item: Columbia University vs. America

Submitted by Mike MacConnell (Australia), Apr 14, 2003 at 08:45

Are you in any way able to display for us an example of a human-constituted nation-state on this here planet whose war machine is NOT designed for the express purpose of efficiently bringing enemies to their end?

America's is merely the biggest, most technologically advanced, and most mindful of the Geneva convention. [When dealing with soldiers and civilians. Who cares about terrorists? Honestly now.]

And America's armed forces are not even the most active. Please look at any comparible nation state, be it western, middle-eastern or eastern for historical comparison. They have all been about as actively involved in conflicts of self interest as each other. So again, aside from the fact that it is the best at its task, I ask once more, how is the USA's military demonstrably any WORSE than any other?

The fact is, it isn't. Quite the contrary. Can you help me to find the example in entire human history where so few collateral losses were incurred ..., as were witnessed in Iraq? Where so much effort and expense was put into the direct effort to minimize said losses? Because I really cannot.

It seems to me that your thinking is flawed Chris. Might want to re-evaluate.
