Reader comment on item: Columbia University vs. America

Submitted by Kathryn Brown (United States), Apr 4, 2003 at 11:51

I am appalled by the facts of this article. To think the faculty of one of the most accredited universities in this country is slandering the nation where their institution is located. I am a college student in Boston, MA and recognize the power professors posess. They are supposed to teach their students...not brainwash them. To each their own and all are allowed to form their own opinion...not have someone elses pushed on them.

Most likely these professors were not even born in the US and they came here to take advantage of the opportunities America offers. And yet they come here and insult this country, our troops, and our leaders because they believe it is their "right". They are so lucky that they have that right and that there are people out there willing to fight for that right and even try to give that freedom to others. I do not believe that any of these "professors" would be willing to go and pick up a gun to fight for their beliefs. They are merely cowards who hide behind their title, their institution, and the 1st amendment.

I say to them, shame on you for using your position of power and influence to belittle a nation that has given you everything you have today. I hope that your students are intelligent enough to form their own opinions and ignore the rhetoric that you are feeding them.
