Ivory Towers

Reader comment on item: Columbia University vs. America

Submitted by Greg Gardner (United States), Apr 3, 2003 at 15:59

Throughout history, the demise of great civilizations has been foreshadowed by the the rise of ivory towers filled with intellectual elitists who are consumed by their self-importance. They cast aside their basic human instincts for survival in favor of the belief that they have attained the pinnacle of knowledge. Their rationalization that they are the superior element in society, and the contradictions this thinking has with reality, ultimately results in their need to become prophets of doom. The danger to society comes when the masses are convinced that their twisted logic is somehow more relevant than common sense.
